What I’m reading:

Some of my favorite books.

My book club just read ‘All About Love’ by Bell Hooks. This book is a glistening grain of sand on a dark Texas beach. It is a hope that things could be better. That love is still real and reachable and that, ultimately, most people want it. Most importantly, it gives a running definition of hope that is not rooted in eroticism. It is not fleeting. It is an action. An intent. One that can live in all of us if we practice it.

Our current read is: In ‘Each Other’s Care’ by Stan Tatkin (I recommend reading ‘Wired For Love’ first. Available second hand here: https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/in-each-others-care-a-guide-to-the-most-common-relationship-conflicts-and-how-to-work-through-them_stan-tatkin/58006110/?resultid=7530c269-9274-4dc2-ae97-fafa1fc03303#edition=58093325&idiq=52650031

Will let you know what I think about this one soon! So far, we’ve named it as a nuggety read, as in, full of relationship do’s and don’ts that only a seasoned therapist could dole out.

…and here is a list of books on trauma that my supervisor recommends:

Healing Developmental Trauma by Dr. Lawrence Heller

The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk. How to help traumatized people heal their body, minds and brains. 141 weeks on NYT's best seller list and counting!

Anchored: How to Befriend Your Nervous System Using Polyvagal Theory by Deb Dana

In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts by Gabor Mate. Addiction and the legacy of pain and trauma.
